Airports

Of course airlines can’t fly somewhere unless they have an airport to land on. Airports have runways, terminals, check-in areas, lounges etc. They can be domestic or international or both. International airports require extra facilities to process customs and immigration, while domestic airports usually only have security and don’t need the border protection measures.

Airports are referred to by three-digit codes which also in some cases don’t make sense. For example Sydney is SYD, Melbourne is MEL, Darwin is DRW, Helsinki is HEL. But Chicago is ORD, Dubai is DXB, Abu Dhabi is AUH, Queenstown in NZ is ZQN, Vancouver is YVR. Again always be careful to use the right airport code.
